    1. The flooding is all taking place at least 600 kms from us… for now. The water volumes of the swollen rivers of the north take a few weeks to reach the Gulf and so riverside areas of Bangkok look to be in for some wet walks next month. There is nothing particularly unusual about that.

We pretty much never get impacted where we are. Even in the Great Floods of 2011, when I’d gone to all the trouble of putting our refrigerator up on stilts and took everything off the floors on the ground level, we remained at least an inch or two above it all. Within a year all the pipes under the roads in our muban were replaced to avoid any future threat.

All around us though, within a few kms, people were driven out of their homes, especially people living along either the river or bigger khlongs.

What you see in these pics is just the usual aftermath of torrential downpours that last an hour or two night after night in the rainy season. Yesterday around 4:30, when I have to go and pick Ton up at the bus stop, the skies opened and the rain fell in buckets and blankets as I blindly rode the mighty Wave through the torrent.

Compared to 40C heat, these monsoon drenches are a pleasure!
