Gas Station/Bam Naman

Many years ago, during my undergrad, I took a Studio Fundamentals course. I came away with two powerful impressions.

One was the overwhelmingly physical/material nature of Art, something I’d somehow missed in all those perusals of books and gallery visits.

The other was a little story our instructor told to illustrate the importance of intention in the creation of Art. When asked “Why did you choose these colors for this painting?” a student couldn’t say. She pointed at his running shoes and said “Look!”

If it had been me, I would have just said “Wow! Thanks!”

I do love my local gas station.
